Edward of Woodstock (1330-1376), Prince of Wales, nicknamed the Black Prince of Wales - one of the most famous historical figures of the Middle Ages. The son and heir of the King of England, the winner of the French in the battles of the Hundred Years' War, he seemed to contemporaries the embodiment of a true knight, brave and gallant. Skeptical descendants saw the prince differently - a typical feudal lord, indifferent to the death and suffering of the victims of his military adventures. The book of historian Vadim Ustinov, the first Russian-language biography of the Black Prince, tells about what Prince Edward really was, what he stood out for among his contemporaries.
